I have just come back from a long weekend in the Channel Islands, where I was staying with friends in Sark. If any of you get a chance to go it is well worth a visit. www.sark.info
A new bistro/coffee shop has very recently opened up in Sark. It is called 'La Petite Poule' (The Little Hen) and it is run by a fab lady called Kristina. All the food and the cakes are home-made and very good too! Very Happy The prices were also very reasonable too - eg. a bowl of home-made soup £2.50. It is certainly worth a visit to Sark just to enjoy the excellent surroundings, food and company of this establishment and the clean toilets have Ecover handwash too! Very Happy
I was also pleased to see that there is now a small health food shop here, which has been open for a couple of years.

I'd really like to visit Sark, from what I've seen (on 'telly) it looks like a lovely island.

Oh, thank you for promoting the Channel Islands. Its surprising how many people don't know we even exist and when you mention where you are from they think you are from outer space (it could be the fact that we have two heads and a tail!!).
Sark is lovely, you certainly need to find a good place to eat after walking up the hill or did you take the lazy option and catch a ride on a tractor?

I never need an excuse to tell people about how fab the Channel Islands are Laughing I can talk about them till the cows come home!!!

Having worked in Sark (1988) and not as fit as I would like to be Rolling Eyes I caught the tractor or as it is often called 'The Toast Rack' because it looks like a tractor pulling a ... toast rack!!! The new cafe/bistro I mentioned earlier - 'La Petite Poule' is definitely worth trying if you go over for the day, it is the first business at the start of The Avenue. I know that there are now some boats going direct from St Helier to Sark a couple of times a week, I think it is probably only for the summer season and I am not sure of the price. Return between St Peter Port and Sark is £22 per adult.

Check out the link below which has info on Sark and shows a few minutes preview of Underwater Seas - the bit around Sark (click on the black box) and is definitely worth checking out. Undersea Sark

My Nan was from Guernsey and was evacuated in the war. I've visited before having children and went over to Sark for a great visit. Hired a tandem and did the length of the island. highly recommended.
We have decided our holiday next year will be a trip back with our children and are planning to do it public transport from derbyshire Very Happy Can't wait!

Hope you have a fab time are you going to stay in Guernsey or Sark?
Public transport is very easy to use in Guernsey, the buses are so cheap! Very Happy And they all go back to the bus station, so if you get on the wrong one, it will not be long before you are back in town! Laughing They cost a flat rate of 60p per journey and you can buy a 10 journey card (you can also buy larger journey numbers too) which makes each trip a bit cheaper still. You used to be able to travel free if you got back on the same no. bus within an hour of getting off it, but not sure if they still do this

come to Jersey and have a day trip to Sark Laughing

My sister and her friends went on a day trip to Sark the other weekend, I think they chose the wettest day ever. She wore white linen trousers and flip flops, by the time she got home in the evening it looked like she had a severe case of deli belly, what with all the flipping and flopping mud.

She went to the little cafe and said she had a very enjoyable bacon butty. Thanks for the recommendation.

If this is your first visit to the Channel Islands, you might find it more suitable to stay in Guernsey and then you can do trips to both Herm and Sark much more easily. But Sark is wonderful to stay in too! Very Happy Click here and amend 'choose month' for details of what events are going on in September or any other month! Very Happy

The Battle of Britain event in September is always excellent, the Red Arrows often make an appearance as well. Very Happy

Been to Alderney yet? There's an island off the main island called
(I think) Burrou. You used to be able to get there only via a friendly island lobster fisherman's leaky boat. Given this was all a long time ago, by now probably ****** great ferry service operates and in place of supreme solitude, there are ice cream parlours, Starbucks, a Burger King and amusement arcades. When 3 of us visited, you were able to watch nature in the raw. The island is a place where old and sick seabirds fly in to die; thousands of tiny bones crunch through centuries of marine birdlife. A resident flock of fat great black-backed gulls brutally despatch any waverers. The weather changes as the tides of the Channel and Atlantic meet in spectacles of incredible beauty as waves literally rear up.
